"Vulcheva carries the drama, passion and sadness of her region in her quivering, tender voice" - Revolutions

Kalinka first learned her craft in direct descent from the singing of her great grandmother in her native region of Doubroudja (N.E. Bulgaria).

She began her professional life having been chosen at a music festival to join the Bulgarian national radio and television folk choir as first soloist. This choir became known internationally as "Le Mystere des Voix Bulgares". Kalinka performed and recorded with the choir for twenty years, touring and giving concerts in many parts of the world. During her career she performed at many national and world music festival competitions and won the gold medal on every occcasion, sometimes competing with singers from up to 30 countries.

Kalinka now performs as a soloist and with Bulgarian traditional groups "Loznitsa" and "Bisseri" and also with Anglo/Bulgarian crossover band "Vulcheva-Jenkins Incident".

In recent years television documentaries have been made of Kalinka's life and music and in Bulgaria she is known as "The Dobroudja Nightingale"

She has recently released a solo album of traditional and self-penned Bulgarian songs recorded live at the Abbaye du Relec in Brittany
