The creation of a band's first album
is akin to taking a journey into the unknown. To arrive at the final destination, steering a
path safely through the many pitfalls and challenges, is an achievement in itself.
However, starting that journey as six individuals, arriving at an unexpected but satisfying
and distinctive end as a cohesive force, perhaps best describes the creation of this
album!
The concept behind LinnTilla was first developed in the summer of 2004 by Murray Grainger,
Steafan Hannigan and Saskia Tomkins, all members of the former band "Mahogany Gaspipes".
The idea behind the new band was to explore the fusion of modern grooves with melodies and
songs from the traditional world. To this end they were joined by Cecilia le Poer Power,
Dave Neville and Nye Parsons.
The creative process for LinnTilla is fascinating, because each member approaches from
diverse backgrounds and experiences. However, this is perhaps the band's main strength,
as the collision of styles triggers an explosion of possibilities, with the end result being
an original and exciting blend of ideas. Jazz, Rock, Classical, Celtic, and World influences
all combine to create an emotionally moving, mentally stimulating, and thought provoking new
sound.
The final twist on the journey occurred on the recording of the album when Declan Flynn,
producer and engineer for the project, brought his years of experience from the commercial scene.
The blending of the band's singular style of music, and his production and musical
expertise, has taken the music to an unprecedented level.
So the journey ends…the destination greets us with exquisite vocals, haunting
uilleann pipes, the excitement of fiddle and accordion, combined with the drive of keyboards,
drums and bass to create a rousing and invigorating experience. Of course, like all journeys,
this isn't the end, merely the first steps into a much larger world where the
possibilities have just begun to reveal themselves. Enjoy the pit-stop, this is just the
beginning…
